The 4th annual Patapsco Valley 50K will take place on October 28th, 2017.
The Patapsco Valley 50K is a trail ultramarathon on the trails of Patapsco Valley State Park Avalon Area in Baltimore, Maryland. The race features plenty of scenic dirt single track with a few short sections on paved bike trail. The terrain is challenging but runnable with rolling hills throughout. The course has a handful of small creek crossings and can often be muddy in many places. You will hardly believe you are just minutes from busy downtown Baltimore!
Some of the course highlights include Cascade Falls, Bloede Dam, which was the first submerged hydroelectric dam known to exist, Swinging Bridge, and the ruins of the Orange Grove Flour Mill and the small manufacturing towns of Orange Grove and Avalon, as well as the Avalon Nail and Iron Works. Not to mention gorgeous views of the Patapsco River throughout!

Start & Finish
Gates to Patapsco Valley State Park will open on race day at 5:00am. You do not need to pay to enter the park, the fee is included in your registration. Volunteers will be directing you where to park. Please carpool if you can. We have the use of both Avalon pavilions this year, so you may park in any open space. When the pavilion area spots are full, runners will need to park near Lost Lake or at the small lot at the end of the park entrance road and walk a short distance (~0.5 mile) to the start/finish area.
The race begins and finishes in the field adjacent to shelter #105 in the Avalon Area of Patapsco Valley State Park in Baltimore, MD. Since the race begins before sunrise, all runners MUST start the race with a headlamp or flashlight. A drop box will be available at the Landing Road Aid Station (~7.5) for runners to drop off their lights. Lights will be brought back to the pavilion for runners to retrieve after their run. PLEASE LABEL YOUR LIGHTS and remember to pick them up when you are done running!
Drop Bags, Pacers, & Crews
You will be able to stage one small drop bag at the pavilion in a designated area. Runners will have access to their bag at ~mile 20 at the Pavilion Aid Station. Pacers and crews are not allowed at any time!
Runners MAY park inside of Patapsco Valley State Park on race morning. Gates to the park will open at 5am. Please try to carpool if you can! DO NOT pay the park entry fee at the entrance, it is covered by your race entry fee. Spectators and family who enter the park in separate vehicles will need to pay the entry fee to the park ($3 per person).
Runners not reaching the Pavilion Aid Station (~mile 20) in 6 1/2 hours (1:30pm) will be asked to discontinue their race and begin to enjoy the after-party food and drink. This is to ensure safety of our runners, volunteers, and EMS staff. If you do not reach the cutoff at that point, please respect this rule and enjoy the afternoon at the pavilion. Official final cutoff for the race is 10 hours (5:00pm). Any runner finishing after this time will not receive credit for officially finishing the race.
